Trout Unlimited February Email No Chapter meeting in February but there is a lot going on so read on about: A new CEO for Trout Unlimited A Fundraiser for the Ted Trueblood Chapter on March 17th The Fly Fishing Film Tour on February 20th Idaho Sportsman’s Caucus Bull Trout Critical Habitat Hearing on February 25th * * * After serving for 20 years at the helm of TU, Charles Gauvin is stepping down as TU’s CEO and President. During his time at TU, Charles has exceeded even the most ambitious goals for our organization. Complementing the work of TU’s grassroots members, Charles is largely to thank for making TU a powerful national force for coldwater conservation. We're pleased to announce that Chris Wood has taken over as TU's new CEO. Many of you know and have worked with Chris during his years with the organization. Chris was instrumental in the development of TU's current strategic plan and has actively worked to improve the programs and services to our members. Charles will serve as CEO Emeritus for the next year in an advisory capacity as well as on the Board of Trustees to ensure a seamless transition. Charles remains firmly committed to TU's mission, to its dedicated volunteer base and to playing a role in assuring that the progress we've made in the past 50 years continues. * * * Come join the Ted Trueblood Chapter at a late winter fundraiser after work on Wednesday March 17th. Yes, it’s St. Patrick’s Day so we’ll call this the “Luck o' the Trout” event. It will happen at the Owyhee Plaza Ballroom from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The cost is $10.00 per person with hors d'œuvres and a no host bar. We will show two episodes of the Trout Unlimited On the Rise television show, with episodes filmed Idaho: Rapid River and South Fork of the Snake River. These episodes originally aired in 2008 on the Outdoor Life Network, a cable network with very limited expose in the Gem State. Very few people have seen these shows. Both episodes highlight some of the conservation work of Trout Unlimited in Idaho. The host meets with TU staffers Scott Stouder and Matt Woodard and with local government agency staff who have worked with Trout Unlimited. A long winter with limited fishing opportunities and a depleted club treasury means we need an after work social gathering and fundraising event for the Ted Trueblood Chapter. There will be a silent auction and raffle winners announced following the shows. * * * THE 2010 FLY FISHING FILM TOUR In just its' fourth year, The Fly Fishing Film Tour has become the fishing entertainment event of the year. The Film Tour will be seen in well over 80 cities in 2010 and will showcase some of the best independent outdoor film makers. The goal of the Fly Fishing Film Tour is to energize the industry and inspire film makers to create new cutting edge films to both entertain and educate outdoor enthusiasts. The Idaho Angler is very proud to be a local supporting sponsor for the 2010 Fly Fishing Film Tour, which will be shown on Saturday, February 20th at the Egyptian Theater in Boise, ID. Doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets are for sale at the Idaho Angler on Vista Avenue for only $12 each (cash only purchase). Or, you may purchase them online, or at the door of the theater for $14. All ticket holders are automatically entered to win a 10-day fly fishing trip for two Patagonia through the Fly Fishing Film tour. The Idaho Angler will be holding a pre-show party beginning at 4:30pm at the shop. This will provide a good opportunity for you to hang out with fellow fly fishers, enjoy a few appetizers, and enter our raffle for a cool prize. All proceeds from the raffle will go to benefit Casting for Recovery. The Ted Trueblood Chapter will have a booth at the Egyptian Theater just prior to the show so drop by and say hello and buy a ticket to our March 17 event. * * * The Idaho Sportsman’s Caucus Advisory Council (ISCAC) formed seven years ago and ITU has been a member since it began. Today ISCAC consists of 31 outdoor groups representing diverse interest from hunting, fishing, trapping, equestrian to conservation. The council’s mission is to advise the Idaho state legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus on legislation of interests to outdoor groups. ITU is a member of the Board of Directors of ISCAC and is represented by Scott Stouder. This year ISCAC is making a direct effort to inform its member groups on state legislative actions of interest. Please go the website below on a daily basis during the legislative session for information on issues facing sportsmen. http://www.idahosportsmensconnection.com is the place to go to follow the Idaho Legislature. Please take the time to read the content located in the “Legislative Updates” section, and continue to check the website daily for more legislative information important to ISCAC. * * * The US Fish and Wildlife Service recently announced a new proposed critical habitat designation for the bull trout across its range in five states. Trout Unlimited is reviewing the proposal and we will be submitting comments prior to the March 15 deadline. There will also be a public meeting in Boise on Thursday, Feb. 25, from 4-6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Boise Center on the Grove at 850 W. Front St. in downtown Boise. Officials will accept comments during a public hearing from 7-9 p.m. Trout Unlimited will make comments at the meeting, but we need more TU members who are interested to come speak at the hearing. If you are interested in participating you are encouraged to attend the hearing. If you need more information send an email to tutedtrue@aol.com and we will get some information to you. * * * This email is sent to members of the Ted Trueblood Chapter of Trout Unlimited and associated friends and supporters. If you want off the list send us an email and we’ll remove the hook and release you. http://www.tedtruebloodtu.org/ http://twitter.com/tedtruebloodtu http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ted-Trueblood-Chapter-of-Trout-Unlimited/131862838207
